The Contentment You Need is a Gift of the Season
Every year, without fail, I feel sooo sad about the time "falling back" because I don't really like that it gets dark before dinnertime.
And then every year, on Sunday morning, I wake up and realize that it's earlier than I usually wake up. At first, I feel annoyed because I really value my sleep. But then...I realize what day it is. It's my dream day. It's the day that there is literally extra time in the day.
I don't know a single working mama, wife, daughter, friend, woman who doesn't want an extra hour in the day.
Now, for those of you with littles, I do remember this day not so long ago that this hour was not so peaceful and relaxing but rather an extra hour that I had to keep my little ones occupied until blessed nap time. But I promise, the time really does fly and before you know it, you'll be doing this with your extra hour.
I teach that it is best to begin and end your day in privacy and quiet. I actually do this most mornings. But not with the luxury of time to ponder, dream and reflect. I have a set amount of time before I have to get kids to school, get in my exercise and be in my seat ready to focus on my clients.
While I stand by this abbreviated daily practice, it was such a gift to stretch out that time and fill my reserves. Usual life is challenging enough. You never know what's coming. Hopefully it's good. But just in case it's not, let's have our reservoir filled.
I'm going to take a cue from how I felt on Sunday and apply this mindset to my daily practice. Instead of thinking about what time it is and how much time I have left in my morning quiet routine, I'm going to give myself space to "stretch out" even the shorter amount of time and fill my reservoir every day.
What did you do with your extra hour on Sunday?
